bullet Advanced Microbial Cell Platforms
bullet Metabolic engineering
Metabolic Engineering focuses on the development and optimization of microbial strains for purpose of producing biomaterials, biochemicals, and biofuels of interest. In our laboratory, we have developed several microbial strains including E. coli, yeast, and Lactic acid bacteria for production of biochemicals and biofuels.
Currently, we are focusing on engineering isoprenoid pathways for production of isoprenoid derivatives of industrially interest such as carotenoids, isoprenoid sugars, natural rubber, and isoprene fuels.
bullet Synthetic biology
Synthetic Biology focuses on the development of basic exchangeable modules of genetic circuits or synthetic pathways which can be rationally implemented into microbial cell platforms for producing biomaterials, biochemicals, and biofuels of interest.
Our laboratory is working on developing exchangeable biosynthetic modules,fine-tunable promoter system, new synthetic modules for non-natural biochemicals. We are interested in reverse engineering for non-natural biochemicals and biofuels such as 1,4-butandiol and non-natural isoprenes using industrial microorganisms using.novel synthetic modules.
bullet Systems biology
Systems Biology helps us comprehensively understand and interpret systems of microbial cells by studying dynamics of genomes, transcriptomes, proteomes and metabolomes. Currently, we are interested in genome scale engineering using rational or random mutagenesis approaches (Adaptive and Forced Evolving). Comprehensive systems-level analysis of evolved strains give excellent information about cellular regulation of microbial systems in production of compounds of interest. Next-Generation Sequencing Technology and computational biology will help us gain deep insights on evolved microbial systems.
